Pyrotechnic Battlefield Simulation (BATSIMS) Courses.SkyHighFX are now running a number of pyrotechnic BATSIM courses for individuals or companies requiring an introduction, familiarisation, training or planning for the application of pyrotechnic BATSIMS for displays.
The course is designed for people either using, or wishing to use, pyrotechnic BATSIMS in the Theatre/TV/Film industry, those involved in Battle re-enactment, or just those with an interest.
Aims of the course.
- To teach safe working practice, the use of and the handling of pyrotechnic BATSIMS.
Where.
- The courses are to be held in the centre of Kent, a short distance from Sevenoaks.
When.
- The next course is to be held on Tuesday 31st May 2011.
What is provided.
- All equipment and BATSIMS required.
- Lunch and tea/coffee are provided as part of the course, and timings are typically 09:30 to 17:00 with one hour for lunch.
- Hand-outs.
- The classroom is situated adjacent to the BATSIMS area, should the weather be unkind.
- A course certificate.
What is covered;
- Range and types of pyrotechnic BATSIMS available. Smoke, Maroons, ground burst, air-burst, gunfire etc.
- Applications and planning a display.
- Risk assessments and safety distances.
- Practical demonstrations.
- 'Hands-on' by all students.
- Initiation techniques and firing boxes.
- Wiring and calculations to avoid embarrassing mis-fires.
- Regulations and guidelines relating to the purchase, storage and movement of pyrotechnic BATSIMS.
- HSE documentation.
- Legal issues and insurance.
The course covers both classroom work and practical outdoor demonstrations and is defiantly 'hands-on'. It is aimed at both novice and rusty experienced operators, and designed as both an education and an enjoyable experience.
SkyHigh also offer other courses ranging from Theatrical stage effects through to the use of high explosives including weapons training. These courses are all designed to give the trainees an in-depth knowledge of the operator safety procedures and an insight into the use of the various products.
